Approach
In the Floris UMC web redesign and content management project, my approach focused on creating a cohesive, user-friendly platform that aligns with the church's mission and serves the needs of both the congregation and newcomers. The design process involved simplifying navigation, improving accessibility, and implementing effective content management tools to allow staff to manage the site independently. I ensured that the new site was mobile-optimized, visually engaging, and easy to maintain, providing a seamless experience for users across all devices.
Vision
The vision for the Floris UMC website was to craft an intuitive, welcoming digital space that supports the church’s mission of connection, service, and outreach. By embracing modern design trends and cutting-edge technology, I aimed to create a website that would engage the congregation, attract new members, and facilitate easier access to church resources and events. The site reflects the church’s values of community, spiritual growth, and service while providing a functional platform for both church staff and visitors.
Challenges
The key challenges involved redesigning an outdated website that lacked modern functionality and was difficult for staff to update. A significant pain point was the absence of a centralized content management system (CMS), which led to inefficient workflows and an inability to keep the site up to date with the church’s events and news. Additionally, the site needed to be mobile-friendly, easily navigable for visitors, and feature-rich with event management tools, sermon streaming, and online donation capabilities.
Problems
The major problem was building a website that met the needs of a diverse audience, from current members looking for specific ministry details to newcomers who needed to easily learn about the church and get involved. The challenge was also to design a site that was not only functional but also user-friendly, making it easy for church staff to upload new content, manage events, and update church information regularly. The website had to support the church’s growing needs while remaining simple and intuitive for all users.
User-Centric Design
In creating a user-centric design for Floris UMC, my goal was to ensure that visitors could easily access important information, whether they were looking for event updates, service times, or ministry details. I prioritized mobile optimization to ensure the site functioned smoothly on any device. The layout was designed to be clean, organized, and visually appealing, with a focus on accessibility. I also incorporated an intuitive CMS to empower staff to maintain and update the website content independently, ensuring it stayed current and relevant for all users.

User Needs
The users of the Floris UMC website range from church members and potential visitors to ministry leaders. The primary user needs included easy access to service schedules, ministry details, event registration, sermon archives, and online donation options. Additionally, the site needed to appeal to first-time visitors by showcasing the church’s welcoming environment and emphasizing key aspects like mission work and community involvement. I focused on designing a site that met these needs through clear navigation and a content structure that made information accessible.
